Thanks to Pete Rose, who lived in Turkey for 2 1/2 yrs, for sharing this traditional Anatolian collar with us.

The dogs wear these spiked metal collars to protect their necks when wolves and cougars attack.

When I was a little girl, I asked my mother "Can I keep it?" on an almost daily basis. She, with varying degrees of revulsion, pity, shock, and allergy, consistently replied "When you grow up and move into your own house you can have all the animals you want!"
Thanks, Mom. <3

For a couple of years I've done a seasonal farm update every week via email. Thanks to this website, that will no longer be the case. Instead, Farm Fans can visit this blog to find the goings-on, stories, news, etc. In short, this site is where the wonder and excitement you've come to expect from Ballyhoo will be concentrated.

This is a great season for a fresh start! Babies are being born, the garden is sprouting, new projects are in store...the world is our oyster! I hope my stubborn determination and sense of humor inspire you to make a little ballyhoo wherever you are.

Stay tuned!
